Giants pre-season over/unders

Giants pre-season over/unders

With the regular season now over, we wanted to revisit our pre-season over/unders, which is a fun look back to see how optimistic (or not) we were over six months ago and how the season actually played out.

Brad came up with the questions and we both gave our answers on the air.

1. Will the Giants be a top six team in the National League at the All-Star break?

We were both worried that Farhan Zaidi had put all of his pitching eggs in the second half basket, but also thought the team would be competitive enough to be a playoff team at the time.

GG: Yes
Brad: Yes

They were not. They were three games out of that spot at the All-Star break.

2. How many stolen bases would the Giants have by the end of the season? Brad set the over/under at 99.5.

GG: Under
Brad: Under

We were smart with this one. The Giants weren't even close with just 68 stolen bags.

3. How many starts would Kyle Harrison have? Brad set the over/under at 20.5.

GG: Over
Brad: Over

This one got a little dicey toward the end of the season, but Kyle finished with 24 starts.

4. How many combined home runs would the Jorge Soler, Matt Chapman, and Michael Conforto hit? Brad set the over/under at 65.5.

GG: Over
Brad: Over

This one was tricky because Soler was traded before the trade deadline. If we add his home runs as a member of the Atlanta Braves, we get to 68. If we don't, we only get to 59. Since we never mentioned trades, we're keeping all his home runs.

5. How many wins do the Giants end the season with? Brad set the over/under at 85.5 wins, thinking that's what it would take to get into the playoffs.

GG: Over
Brad: Over

In the NL, the number was 89 and in the AL, the number was 86, so that number was a tad low. And guess what, the Giants still missed it with their 80 wins.

Overall, since we're counting all of Soler's home runs, we both went 3-2. Not bad. Not bad.
