The Giants shut down Kyle Harrison more than likely for the rest of the season

On Wednesday night, we published the latest episode of Thompson 2 Clark, the show that kicked off this network. With the Giants waiving the white flag on the season, my co-host Brad Evans and I decided to take a look at the young players and said what we hoped to see from them for the rest of the season.

With Kyle Harrison's fastball being down in velocity from the beginning of the year, I wondered if the Giants would shut him down. Brad thought that he'd go as long as he felt okay.

We cut the Harrison portion of the conversation and put it on YouTube which you can listen to below.

Whether it was Harrison who no longer felt okay, or the Giants who wanted to make sure their top young arm didn't get injured, the Giants put him on the 15-day DL on Friday. It more than likely ends a rookie season in which Harrison went 7-7 with a 4.56 ERA. Bob Melvin wasn't definitive, but told John Shea from The San Francisco Chronicle (linked through Apple News) it was probably a good chance that Harrison's season is done because the Giants are on the outside of the playoff race.

It made Harrison the third pitcher of late to join the DL with Jordan Hicks, another young pitcher who was stretched out this season further than he'd been as a professional before, and Robbie Ray, already placed on the DL earlier in the week.

On Friday night, the Giants  lost to the Padres, 5-1.
